Modern lemurs have only been found on the island of Madagascar, off Africa’s southeastern coast. And even though lemur-like primates called adapiforms once clambered through dense forests over much of the northern hemisphere, they didn’t have any record at all in South America.
Lemurs are found only in Madagascar and parts of the Comoro Islands off Mozambique’s coast in Africa, making them one of the most endangered species in the world. They spend most of their time on trees and on the ground when searching for food.
While reading we ran into the question “What are lemurs like?”.
This is what my research found. lemurs are small arboreal primates that live on the island of Madagascar and on the nearby Comoros Islands. There are numerous lemur species, all of them slightly different from one another.
The answer was ring-tailed lemurs usually give birth to a single offspring, but twins occur occasionally. Gestation is about 130 – 144 days and babies are born in September when food becomes abundant. The young lemurs weight 3–4 oz (85–113 gm) at birth and can immediately cling to the mother’s belly where they stay for about for 1-2 weeks.
